Dylan Groenewegen put himself back on the top step of the podium with a superb sprint to win the Ronde van Limburg.
Team Jayco AlUla were attentive all day, ensuring that the many riders who tried to prevent the sprint finish by attacking off the front were not able to succeed.
With a mixture of climbs and cobbles, it was not an easy day and a small, select group came to the finish in Tongeren.
The Dutchman was delivered expertly near to the front of the bunch by Elmar Reinders inside the final kilometre, setting him up for the sprint to the line.
Groenewegen made sure he was the first rider through the final corner before opening the afterburners to take victory by a clear margin.
Dylan Groenewegen:
“It’s been a while, so it’s certainly nice to cross the line with my hands in the air again. I was often close, but it didn’t happen. I have to thank the team for never losing confidence in me. I always felt confidence in the team. We always went for it, but unfortunately, we were more often not rewarded. That is also part of cycling. The team knows what I can do when I am given the freedom to sprint. In Veenendaal-Veenendaal I was a bit boxed in. I am happy to get the win today.”
