Baker blasts to third place in Britain

Liv AlUla Jayco scored their second podium of the week at the Tour of Britain as Georgia Baker blasted to third place in Warrington.

The Commonwealth Games road race champion finished off some strong teamwork from her teammates, with Australian Champion Ruby Roseman-Gannon and stage one second place finisher Letizia Paternoster playing a key role in the closing kilometres.

The stage always looked set to be a bunch sprint finish, and the peloton made sure of it as they reeled in the various breakaway riders, with Paternoster grabbing the remaining bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint as the Italian looks to consolidate her overall podium place with one stage remaining.

In the finale the team executed their plan as Roseman-Gannon and Paternoster guided Baker onto the prime wheel of Team SD Worx – Protime, before launching her seated acceleration to take third place.

Georgia Baker:
“I’m really happy to finish third and the girls rode so, so well all day. We positioned really well because the roads were really crazy, twisting and turning and there were a few crashes out there today.

The final was like we expected, it was crazy, but everyone just fought so, so hard and it all came together at the end and the girls did a great lead out for me and I could finish third. Our goal was a podium finish and I’m really happy with that.”
