Teniel Campbell enjoyed a dominant weekend at the 2024 Trinidad and Tobago national championships by claiming victories in the time trial and road race this weekend.
This will be Liv AlUla Jayco rider´s second time wearing the national jersey in both disciplines in the WorldTour peloton after winning them both in 2022, her last appearance in the event.
The 26-year-old began the championships with a win in the 25.2km time trial on Saturday followed by the 147km road race on Sunday.
The road race was a mass start event with the elite women racing alongside the elite men and juniors over the demanding terrain in hot and humid conditions.This was not an issue for Campbell she showed once again that she is the strongest female cyclist in the country by winning the elite women’s competition and challenging the fastest men in the country to fifth place overall.
Teniel Campbell:
“I’ve lost track of how many national titles I’ve won over the past races. Usually, it’s difficult for me to return home for nationals as it always clashes with my European program but I’m happy that I could come home and race it this year. It’s always beautiful to race with the tricolour on the back.
Due to the lack of numbers we have in the women’s category, we race with the men, and I wanted to demolish them all! The most challenging factor for me is the heat and humidity. It gets extremely hot here on the island, between 38 to 48 degrees with 100% humidity. Some bits of the course are even below sea level so it was a hard day out.”
