Erin Boothman sparked a huge sensation on Sunday, by taking her first professional win The 19-year-old Scottish rider from the Liv AlUla Jayco Continental Team secured the victory following a late breakaway at the one-day Festival Elsy Jacobs à Luxembourg.
Boothman was alert when attacks came from the peloton with 55 kilometres to go. On a rolling section of the relatively flat course, riders accelerated. Boothman jumped in, and a breakaway group of eight riders formed.
For a long time, the gap to the peloton remained at just 35 seconds. But in the final ten kilometres, the peloton ceased the chase, meaning the winner had to be found at the front.
Boothman, who will be making the switch to the Liv AlUla Jayco WorldTeam next season, demonstrated her sprinting prowess and convincingly claimed victory in the race, which covered over 121 kilometres.

“We had a super good plan as a team, and everybody was fully committed in the earlier part of the race. When the breakaway went, I was unsure if I should fully commit because it was so early in the race, but once we knew the gap was big, I went all-in to try and stay away. Then in the final our DS guided me through a perfect sprint finish, and I was super happy to come away with the win in the end. This victory means a lot to me as it is my first pro win!”
