Ruby Roseman-Gannon delivered Liv AlUla Jayco a well deserved podium placing at the Navarra Women’s Classic with a solid sprint to second place.
After dominating the 133km race, Liv AlUla Jayco put themselves in position to win with Canadian rider Nadia Gontova attacking away from the day’s breakaway, to lead the race solo through the final 30km.
It looked as if the 25-year-old was going to hold off the peloton and take the victory however, with less than three kilometres to go she was swept up, but that didn’t deter the Australian squad.
The team launched counter attacks which made for a thrilling finale before the race came down to an almost inevitable reduced bunch sprint.
Positioning well, Roseman-Gannon launched for the line only to be denied by last year’s winner Cat Ferguson who nudged out the former Australian champion.
Along with Roseman-Gannon, the full squad earned a trip to the podium after claiming the prize for the best team on the day.

“We had Nadia attack, she was so strong and solo for a lot of the race and that really set us well because we were always in control. As soon as she came back the girls kept attacking and I think we were really in control of the race. I sprinted to second, I would have liked to have finished it off with a win but Cat was too good but all in all a really good race. “

“A really good effort by the girls today, Nadia was in a group of five before going solo. That was a really good fight. Overall it was such a good team vibe. The goal was to have numbers in the final and we had all six riders. Couldn’t quite pull off the win but it was a really strong sprint by Ruby and the team. Itzulia is coming up on Friday and we’re looking forward to keeping this great momentum that we have created since the Vuelta. “
