Liv AlUla Jayco got off to a strong start in the Vuelta a Burgos Féminas with Georgia Baker taking third place in the bunch sprint on the opening stage.
A bunch sprint was widely expected in the first stage. Although there were three categorized climbs on the route, they were all in the first half. The final stretch was flat, offering opportunities for the fast women in the peloton, including 31-year-old Australian Baker.
Nevertheless, three riders attempted to prevent a bunch sprint. With 17 kilometers to go, the last two riders were reeled in by the peloton. Within the pack, Liv AlUla Jayco consistently positioned herself at the front.
The riders put in a strong effort and provided an excellent lead-out. Baker, who seemed to be losing ground for a moment, launched a strong final sprint and finished strongly in third place.
There appear to be opportunities for the sprinters again on Friday. The Vuelta a Burgos Féminas continues through Sunday.

“It was a really good day. I felt great all day, and the team did a fantastic job. They looked after me and kept me out of trouble. In the final, we expected a chaotic lead-out, and it definitely was. The girls kept me in a good position. I lost my position a bit going into the final corner, but I kept fighting until the line. It’s great to be back on the podium and to reward the hard work of the team.”
