From the beginning, Quinty set the pace on the climbs and Alex did amazing on the downhills. We were so strong. I went far from the finish to take the pressure of Mavi and Ella. In the end Mavi bridged over to me and we went together. I’m just so proud of what we did, taking first, second, and third, and the mountain jersey. You don’t get many days like this in bike racing so we’re really going to savour it. When we looked at the stage, we knew that it was going to be super hard with tonnes of climbing. We targeted this day as the main GC day to put everything into and be aggressive. In the first part, we knew that we could let the terrain do the work and let the fatigue build in the pack and only upped the pace when we had to so that when we attacked later nobody could follow. It really was textbook racing, and it couldn’t have been better.

It was a pretty special day for the team. Not only was it our mechanic Luca’s birthday but it was the birthday of our other mechanic Valentine’s late mother. We knew it was a special day and everybody rode really well. We’re going to have a bit of a celebration now before we turn our focus to the next three days and make sure that we can keep GC.”

Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucía Stage 1 Results
1.
