{"id":47410,"date":"2024-07-14T14:35:40","date_gmt":"2024-07-14T14:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greenedgecycling.com\/2024\/?p=47410"},"modified":"2024-07-17T16:14:13","modified_gmt":"2024-07-17T16:14:13","slug":"liv-alula-jayco-takes-victory-in-giro-ditalia-women-team-classification-garcia-finishes-top-10-overall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greenedgecycling.com\/2026\/liv-alula-jayco-takes-victory-in-giro-ditalia-women-team-classification-garcia-finishes-top-10-overall\/","title":{"rendered":"Liv AlUla Jayco takes victory in Giro d&#8217;Italia Women team classification, Garc\u00eda finishes top 10 overall"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Liv AlUla Jayco<\/strong>&nbsp;rounded out a strong week at the&nbsp;<strong>Giro d\u2019Italia Women<\/strong>&nbsp;by taking victory in the team classification, as well as ninth place overall with&nbsp;<strong>Mavi Garc\u00eda<\/strong>&nbsp;in the general classification.<br><br>The Australian squad beat the next best team, Lidl-Trek, by over nine minutes while third place in the classification was almost 40 minutes behind after eight days of tough racing.<br><br>Garc\u00eda showed her aggressive racing style on the first mountainous day on stage three, ripping up the peloton before an audacious attack on the final climb. The Spanish racer was only caught by the group of favourites in the final metres of the stage and jumped herself into the overall top 10, where she would stay for the rest of the race.<br><br>Victory in the team classification wouldn\u2019t have been possible without some big rides from the rest of the squad. Strong performances from&nbsp;<strong>Ur\u0161ka \u017digart<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Silke Smulders<\/strong>, who finished 12<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;and 13<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;respectively in the overall classification, helped Liv AlUla Jayco to the top of the standings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mavi Garc\u00eda:<\/span><\/strong><br><em>\u201cAt the start of the Giro, I expected more but this Giro was really hard for everybody and the whole team did the best they could. I think that we improved a lot as a team during the race and so in the end I am satisfied with this result.\u201d<\/em><br><br><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Shawn Clarke (Sport Director):<\/span><\/strong><br><em>\u201cI think we can be happy. We had some big goals coming in and we really went for them. In the end, we got the best team, which I think shows how strong we are collectively. In cycling, it\u2019s always a team effort so when you win a team prize it\u2019s super nice to give the recognition to the whole team. In the general classification, Mavi, on certain days, had some of the best legs in the race and I think she was able to show that.
