{"id":50210,"date":"2025-06-14T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-14T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greenedgecycling.com\/2024\/?p=50210"},"modified":"2025-06-16T16:12:33","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T16:12:33","slug":"swiss-champion-schmid-oconnor-set-to-lead-team-jayco-alula-at-the-tour-de-suisse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greenedgecycling.com\/2026\/swiss-champion-schmid-oconnor-set-to-lead-team-jayco-alula-at-the-tour-de-suisse\/","title":{"rendered":"Swiss champion Schmid &#038; O\u2019Connor set to  lead Team Jayco AlUla at the Tour de Suisse"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Team Jayco AlUla<\/strong> are ready for the <strong>2025 Tour de Suisse<\/strong> with a stellar team that boast Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a podium finisher <strong>Ben O\u2019Connor<\/strong>, who is set to make his debut appearance at the UCI WorldTour event, and Swiss champion <strong>Mauro Schmid<\/strong>, hoping for a strong showing in his home race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The eight-day event<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>kicks off next Sunday, 15<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0June, this year with fewer big mountains and more short but steep climbs on the menu. <br><br>Alongside the leading duo will be Australian champion <strong>Luke Durbridge<\/strong> and Italian rider <strong>Filippo Zana<\/strong>, the latter coming off the back of a solid Giro d\u2019Italia. Three very experienced domestic riders in Austrian <strong>Patrick Gamper<\/strong> and German rider <strong>Jasha S\u00fctterlin<\/strong>, plus young German <strong>Felix Engelhardt<\/strong> who rounds out the team and have the task of protecting the team\u2019s leaders during the demanding race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Team Jayco AlUla at the 2025 Tour de Suisse:<\/span><br>Luke Durbridge (AUS)<br>Felix Engelhardt (GER)<br>Patrick Gamper (AUT)<br>Ben O\u2019Connor (AUS)<br>Mauro Schmid (SWI)<br>Jasha S\u00fctterlin (GER)<br>Filippo Zana (ITA)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mauro Schmid:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cObviously, Tour de Suisse is one of the highlights of my season and means a lot to me. This year will also very special because I will be at the start wearing the national championship jersey and this is one more reason to get good results. My shape is good and I think I had a good training camp recently. Of course, I haven\u2019t raced for quite a long period so I imagine it will take some time to get back into the right race pace. I am looking forward to Tour de Suisse it\u2019s an ideal preparation for the Tour de France but first, I hope that I can already perform well on my home roads<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mathew Hayman &#8211; Sport Director:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cI expect a very close race between the GC contenders, and, at the same time, I think it will offer opportunities for those riders who have the strength and courage to attack. Our team will have two points of reference: Ben O&#8217;Connor and Mauro Schmid. Ben will be leading the Tour de Suisse for a good result in the final ranking but also as preparation for the Tour de France.
