{"id":51888,"date":"2026-02-08T14:46:55","date_gmt":"2026-02-08T14:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greenedgecycling.com\/2024\/?p=51888"},"modified":"2026-02-09T12:44:26","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T12:44:26","slug":"trinca-colonel-climbs-to-superb-worldtour-podium-with-second-place-at-uae-tour-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greenedgecycling.com\/2026\/trinca-colonel-climbs-to-superb-worldtour-podium-with-second-place-at-uae-tour-women\/","title":{"rendered":"Trinca Colonel climbs to superb WorldTour podium with second place overall at UAE Tour Women"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Liv AlUla Jayco<\/strong> climber <strong>Monica Trinca Colonel<\/strong> fought hard to her first WorldTour podium finish with an impressive second place finish overall at the <strong>UAE Tour Women<\/strong>, after climbing to second place on the decisive mountain top finish stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the 2026 edition, the general classification battle came down to the fourth and final day, with the ascent of the\u00a0Jebel Hafeet climb the culmination of the four-day event.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After finishing just shy of the podium in last year\u2019s race, Trinca Colonel knew exactly what it would take and rode a mature and paced effort up the 10.6km decisive climb.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With five kilometres to go, the peloton had shattered into pieces due to a fast pace being set, and the 26-year-old rider found herself in a select group of five riders. Testing the legs of the other, the Liv AlUla Jayco rider launched a brave attack, but unable to shake the competition she settled back into the group on the steep slopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The leaders played cat and mouse as the kilometres ticked down until the eventual winner, Longo Borghini, went solo in the final kilometres leaving Trinca Colonel and\u00a0Femke de Vries in hot pursuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Around the final bend Trinca Colonel powered away from de Vries to claim her first WorldTour podium finish with second place on the stage, which catapulted her onto the overall general classification podium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Monica Trinca Colonel &#8211; second place<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<br><em>&#8220;I am really proud of the result today, the team did a really good job and girls were amazing with the lead-out into the climb and all day helping me. I felt really good and so I tried a few times to get away. In the end the stage went as I expected and I would like to thank everyone.\u201d<\/em><br><br><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Wim Stroetinga &#8211; Sport Director<\/strong><\/span><br>&#8220;<em>The whole week the team rode really well together and this race was a real team effort also the sprint days every rider was committed. We are almost there with our sprint lead-outs, for sure it helped for the lead-out today into the climb which was executed perfectly. In this way Monica didn\u2019t waste any energy before the climb. <\/em><br><br><em>Once on the climb Monica was riding really well and at one moment we decided to ride her own pace instead of go with Longo Borghini which worked out perfectly in the end and she kept going to the finish line.
