The Australian, stepping up from the Liv AlUla Jayco development team, bridged across to the lone leader with one rider for company.

The trio worked well together to hold an advantage of around one minute before finally being reeled back in inside the final 3km as teams set about organising themselves for a sprint finish.

A crash at front of the pack caused chaos, but both Quinty Ton and Paternoster were able to sneak through, with the former racing to the front to leadout her teammate in the tricky final metres.

In the end Cat Ferguson was able to get the jump on her sprint rivals out of the final corner, with Paternoster sprinting home to second place for a solid start to her 2026 season.

Letizia Paternoster:
“The plan was clear and the team worked really good today. If I felt ok the girls would make a lead out for me, this was the plan, but also on climbs we have strong climbers so we also had ‘plan B’, to try and attack, and make it difficult for teams like Lidl-Trek.

On the climb Talia tried to go with a small group and they got really close to the finish, so they made Lidl-Trek work really hard to bring it back. Then the girls made a really, really great lead out for me, also Quinty in the last kilometre, she was in the front with me and she made a really big effort.

The girls really believed in me, and they give me a lot of motivation, also even if I was not really good today because of some sickness. They really cheered me on, when I was on the climb Nadia was screaming to me, ‘come on Leti, you can do it, last kilometre of the climb!’.

This means so much to me and at the finish I said I have to do this for myself and also for the team I have to finish it off.
