Bases covered: Zana and Ewan lead Team Jayco AlUla into Tirreno-Adriatico

Team Jayco AlUla will continue their Italian racing campaign tomorrow with all bases covered for the 59th edition of the Tirreno-Adriatico.

Caleb Ewan, fresh from victory on the first stage of the Tour of Oman, will lead the team in the sprints, and the Australian will be supported by the expert German Max Walscheid and the explosive young New Zealander Campbell Stewart.

For the general classification, Italian Filippo Zana leads the way in his first participation in ‘the race of the two seas’, aided by a strong and experienced group featuring the American Lawson Craddock, the Dane Chris Juul-Jensen and another Italian Alessandro De Marchi.

Team Jayco AlUla:
Lawson Craddock (USA)
Alessandro De Marchi (ITA)
Caleb Ewan (AUS)
Chris Juul-Jensen (DEN)
Campbell Stewart (NZL)
Maximilian Walscheid (GER)
Filippo Zana (ITA)

Caleb Ewan:
“I’m thrilled to return to racing in Italy where I have achieved some of the best victories in my career. As for Tirreno, I still remember my win into Terni in 2022 very well, and I am excited to be back after missing the race last year.

This year’s route offers some opportunities for sprinters, and I think I can achieve some good results. After the Tour of Oman I returned home to prepare for the next block, starting here at Tirreno and then onto Milano-San Remo, another race I care a lot about.”

Filippo Zana:
“After a very satisfying top-10 yesterday at Strade Bianche it’s now time for my debut at Tirreno-Adriatico. I returned last week from an altitude training camp and I feel in good condition.

Together with the team, we decided to try to do well in the GC and the route suits my characteristics. There will be many challenges along the way, but I believe that the sixth stage with an uphill finish at Monte Petrano will be the decisive one.”

Dave McPartland – Sport Director:
“For the 2024 Tirreno-Adriatico we have a complete and competitive team on every single stage. We have a good sprint group led by Caleb Ewan, who will be helped by two talented riders in Max Walscheid and Campbell Stewart.

Then for the GC we have Filippo Zana, who has just come down from the altitude training camp in Tenerife and he’s really well prepared. Filippo will be supported by Lawson Craddock, Chris Juul-Jensen and Alessandro De Marchi. Those three guys, of course, will also doubling up for opportunities to go in those breaks that sometimes reach the finish line. In other words, we’ve got different options and we are really well covered.”
